Is SEO Just Placing a Few Keywords?

Do you think search engine optimisation is simply placing a few keywords in your content and hitting the post button? The answer is a big NO!

SEO is about optimizing your website or blog for better visibility in search engines. It is performed for every element of your blog. However, due to lack of SEO knowledge, many beginner bloggers make huge mistakes. Even with great content, their blog cannot get the position it deserves. This leads to disappointment and eventually quitting.

However, I've Good News

For all those who want to prove themselves through blogging, stop quitting. Nothing is impossible if you truly want to do it and stay determined.

Today, I am going to tell you the 6 most common SEO mistakes beginners make that prevent them from ranking where they deserve.

You can rank your blog better by avoiding these mistakes. You can improve your traffic and rankings up to 50% by fixing these small issues.

1. Too Long Titles

One common mistake is writing long titles. Google and other search engines prefer titles under 70 characters. If your title exceeds this limit, the extra part gets hidden. I recommend keeping it within 60 characters.

Long titles negatively affect your SEO score and reduce your CTR in SERPs. A low CTR means fewer clicks even if you rank high.

2. Not Doing Keyword Research Properly

No matter what you're writing, if you don't research keywords first, you cannot rank. You won't know your competitors or how much effort is needed to beat them.

Keyword research helps you find the right keyword variation and understand the competition. This gives you an idea of how much effort is required to rank.

Although I cannot explain keyword research in-depth here, you can read a complete tutorial in Urdu/Hindi.

3. Not Focusing on Keyword Density

Keyword density is the number of times your target keyword appears divided by the total words of the post. Many bloggers ignore this and either overuse or never use their target keywords.

Your keyword density should stay within 2%-4%, and your content should include variations. This helps Google understand what the content is about and where to rank it.

4. Underestimating the Power of Meta Description

Meta description is a crucial tag after the title. It tells search engines what your content is about. Many beginners stuff it with keywords, which is harmful.

Your meta description should be under 155 characters and include the keyword naturally in a sentence. Avoid keyword stuffing to improve CTR and ranking.

5. Pictures Without ALT Tags

This is one of the biggest mistakes made by beginners. Search engines cannot read images, so ALT tags tell the crawler what the image represents.

If you want to get traffic from Google Image Search, use ALT tags with your images. Describe the image clearly so search engines can rank it properly.

6. Ignoring Anchor Texts

Anchor texts are important for navigation and SEO. Many beginners use generic text like “click here” or “this article,” which search engines don't prefer.

Your anchor text should be keyword-rich and relevant to the linked content. Avoid stuffing; just make it meaningful and helpful.

Bottom Line

If you are making these mistakes, don't worry, everyone learns from mistakes. Correct them and avoid repeating them. Once Google re-crawls your blog, your rankings can improve.

Let me ask you a simple question: “Have you ever made a mistake in your blogging journey?” If yes, don't be afraid to share it. Help others avoid it in the future.
