Why Material Design is Important

September 01, 2018 | Page views: 2191

All the web design trends are intensive on creating a best user experience. Material design is no exception. The goal of the material design is to immerse users by making a natural-feeling interface that’s free of disruptions. So, websites that are not user-friendly will become obsolete as easy-to-use sites become more and more popular.

Material design is the new catchword in the web scope and is Google’s entire new visual design language. The material design was first revealed at the I/O conference in June 2014 and is starting to spread its tentacles across the web design space. The material design UI and material design applications are also symbolic of Google’s hard work to take this further towards making an interface and design language that methodically takes care of multiple difficulties faced by designers. The new design creativity flagged off by Google is absolutely heartening for the entire web design community. There are some lessons and insights offered by this new language and it suffices to say that it is fascinating and attractive in equal measure. The material design also comes with complete guiding principles on every aspect of the design process including animation, sizes of buttons and even placement.

Material design mostly uses 3 core principles at the heart of web design. The 1st principle is that Material is a metaphor for compelling, new age design. The 2nd and 3rd principles inspire graphic, bold and intentional flair and emotional meaning respectively. Whereas these principles may sound cryptic, they’re already making web designers go gaga with good effect. This new language does not only make the design more dynamic and engaging; it also breaks new ground which turns around specific physics and a scientific and organized approach towards design. The graphics and bold aspect of the language give it a signature touch of its own and clearly defined and engaging aesthetics.

All products and screens are unified engagingly on the go and this certifies its compliance with ever-changing devices and gadgets. The language has clear definitions for its usage on several platforms like smartphones, web apps, and smartwatches in addition to websites. There are some limits that need to be kept intact for keeping design styles concurrent across apps. This aids in branding all Google products systematically and transparently. There is no such concept of unity observed by other companies till date apart from Google. Google will attempt to make this design language super flexible, i.e. capable of working on any device or screen irrespective of its configuration. Coming to flexibility, there are many guidelines that enable adjustments for catering to huge or minor Android-based displays while this also makes life a lot easier for designers.

Multiple design sizes can be modified to without any problems whatsoever. Google is implementing lighter and a lot modest aesthetic approach with this design language. Google is steadily capturing the design space with this whole new language. Material design UI will be more cooperative and as close to the real world as possible. Sometime soon, it may well blur the lines between physical and virtual worlds domain worth calculator Compatibility with high-end hardware and software is assured with Material design and it has been built and influenced with elements taken from the real, physical world. This is perhaps one of the major trendsetters in the web designing companies and exciting developments seem to be on the anvil!

All the web design trends are intensive on creating a best user experience. Material design is no exception. The goal of the material design is to immerse users by making a natural-feeling interface that’s free of disruptions. So, websites that are not user-friendly will become obsolete as easy-to-use sites become more and more popular.

Pros

  • The 3-dimensional hypothetical material makes programs easy to interact with. i.e. shadows, lighting, fab buttons and animations which make natural-feeling interface that’s free of distractions
  • Unlike flat design, the material arises with a very comprehensive and specific set of procedures, leaving nothing to guesswork.
  • Applications for multiple platforms, like a website and an Android app, the material design will provide a combined experience across all devices, which is user-friendly and help you with branding.
  • Material design comes with built-in animations effects that would have to be done manually else if required, in programs.

Cons

  • Material Design is extensible tied to Google. If you need to distance yourself from that and create a unique identity for your site, then it will be hard if you use Google’s strategies to make it. To attain that kind of unique identity many CSS customizations will be required.
  • Not all systems will be able to pull off the intended frame rates. And it can be tough to know what can be done to improve usability for those Apps. As these material design animations drain a lot of battery in mobiles.
  • Forcing developers to adhere to rendering guidelines may delay individual creativity and slow the development of more animations and attractive features.

Conclusion:

When it comes to extra complex user experiences, flat design can sometimes, well, fall flat. Not all users are happy with the style of interface and don’t always know what and where to click or tap. Flat design styles can delay usability because users don’t always know what is clickable. Material design’s procedures, UI components, and animations have been widely praised; they just serve to make things more user-friendly. Material design provides some extra pop to a flat design that remains otherwise unchanged.  If you need to build a fancy site with animations, opt for material design as it is more user-friendly.
